Southern Reporting is one of South Carolina's premier court-reporting firms.  We are regularly looking for that special person to join our team.  Honesty, integrity, good character, and a solid work ethic are a must.  If you already have these qualities and are above average in intelligence, we can teach you everything else you need to know about working in an environment that you will find both interesting and challenging.  Because of the high-tech nature of our business, advanced computer skills (or the ability to learn them quickly) are essential.  You must be detail-oriented and able to complete tasks quickly and accurately without direct supervision.  A teachable attitude is vital.  Although you must work well independently of others, you will need the ability to function with a team mentality.

Positions may be available in the following areas:

COURT REPORTER (independent contractor):  We are willing to consider people at all levels of expertise from beginners to realtime reporters.  In some instances, we are willing to invest in training novices who are committed to becoming professionals in our field.

TYPIST/PROOFER/SCOPIST (independent contractor):  Remote transcriptionists on our typist team work from home.  We have a proven, time-tested training process to help you attain a high level of competency in typing deposition transcripts and hearings.  Accurate transcription does not happen overnight, but with flexibility on your part and a teachable attitude, you can learn the necessary transcription-specific skills without having any prior experience in the legal field.  You must be detail-oriented and have the ability to complete tasks without direct supervision.  You will be able to set your own hours as you work from home.  Since we must meet the deadlines of our clients, it is imperative that you complete any typing assignments you have accepted on or before the given due date.  Computer competency and a high-speed internet connection are necessary.  Experience in WordPerfect is helpful but not necessary.  A strong background in English grammar, editing, and/or proofreading are pluses and will significantly reduce your learning curve.  You will need the ability to function as a team member in order to complete large and/or expedited assignments.  Preliminary testing, software and equipment purchase, and a Typist Boot Camp are required.

OFFICE  STAFF (employee):  Duties include processing transcripts from pretrial depositions, scheduling depositions, preparing mail and express-delivery packages, duplicating and synching deposition videos, copying exhibits, answering phones, and other office-related administrative functions.  You must be able to stand on your feet for an extended time.  Periodically, you may be needed to make deliveries to local law firms and may be asked, occasionally, to work overtime in the case of a rush job or expedited transcript.  You will interact with both full- and part-time employees in the office and several other employees and independent contractors who work out of their homes.  If you are committed to providing outstanding customer service, strive for excellence in your work, have a “whatever it takes” attitude, and are conscientious, we may be just the place for you.  We look for hard-working people with leadership potential who are willing to grow with us.  Due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter you may be exposed to in this position, you will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement if hired.  A background investigation will also be conducted.

PART-TIME (employee):  Duties may include office-related administrative functions, office cleaning, copying, assembling transcripts, and running errands in addition to delivering legal transcripts to law firms located in Lexington and Richland counties.  You will interact with both full- and part-time employees in the office.  If you are committed to providing outstanding customer service, strive for excellence in your work, have a “whatever it takes” attitude, and are conscientious, we may be just the place for you.  We hire hard-working people with good driving records.  You will be using your own vehicle for deliveries and will be reimbursed for mileage based on the U.S. Government allowance (currently 55 cents a mile).  Proof of automobile insurance will be required.  Due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter you may be exposed to in this position, you will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
